How Navya School of Dance started?

Navya School of Dance, located at Brent Indian Association, 116 Ealing Road, Wembley, HA0 4TH, is a growing cultural education dance academy specialising in Indian classical and folk-dance. The academy delivers high-quality instruction in Bharatanatyam, India’s most revered classical dance form, as well as Gujarati folk styles such as Garba, Dandiya Raas, and Tippani.

Navya School of Dance began its journey in a small town—Halol, Gujarat—on July 1, 2016 in the leadership of Neelima Ahirwal. With immense support from Neelima’s school principal, Dr. Kalpana Joshipura of Kalarav School within five years, the dance school grew to over 100+ students, gaining recognition as a prestigious institution for Indian classical dance. The performing troupe showcased talent at renowned events like Panchmahotsav (Indian Govt. State Event) and won state-level competitions. She also had the privilege of choreographing annual showcases for schools.

In January 2022, she moved to the UK to further her education in a Business Management of Art and gain international exposure. Starting again from scratch, she partnered with Brent Indian Association in Wembley. Today, Navya School of Dance has flourished into a well-known platform for learning Bharatanatyam, Garba, Dandiya Raas & Tippani, continuing its mission of spreading the beauty of Indian classical & folk dance.

Neelima Ahirwal

Neelima is an accomplished Bharatanatyam artist and dedicated dance educator with extensive experience in teaching and performing. She was recognized as an outstanding performer by her university and was honored with two gold medals for her excellence in performing arts. Her journey has taken her to prestigious stages at both national and international levels, where she has showcased her passion and talent for Indian classical dance.

Born and raised in Gujarat, India, Neelima began her Bharatanatyam training at the age of eight, immersing herself in the rich traditions of this ancient art form. As an immigrant in the UK, she has worked tirelessly to establish her dance career, sharing her knowledge and love for Bharatanatyam with aspiring dancers. Through Navya School of Dance, she is committed to preserving and promoting Indian classical dance, inspiring the next generation to embrace its beauty, discipline, and cultural significance.

Her mission is to create a space where students not only learn the art of dance but also discover confidence, grace, and a deep connection to tradition.

Education

Neelima’s academic journey is a reflection of her diverse interests and dedication to both the arts and entrepreneurship. She holds two bachelor’s and two master’s degrees, demonstrating her commitment to continuous learning and growth.

She began her higher education with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, a renowned institution known for its academic excellence. However, her passion for dance guided her toward a more artistic path, leading her to pursue both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s in Performing Arts from the same university. These years of rigorous training refined her skills and deepened her understanding of Bharatanatyam at an advanced level.

After relocating to the UK, Neelima broadened her expertise by earning a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA). This unique blend of artistic mastery and business acumen has empowered her to not only teach and perform but also to build a thriving space for Indian classical dance. Her academic and professional experiences shape her vision, allowing her to inspire and nurture the next generation of dancers with both passion and purpose.
